Charlie

Henrietta

Henrietta

Charlie was born a boy into the dairy industry. Commonly dairy boys are sold off for veal because they are viewed as a byproduct for milk. Thankfully, Charlie was pulled from the dairy farm and is living his full life at our sanctuary. He is a super friendly boy who loves attention and food!

When she arrived at our rescue, she had severe lacerations to the top of her head. She needed extra attention to heal her wounds and to learn how to trust other chickens again. After proper acclimation she joined our flock and enjoys sunbathing and treats.

Trip

Edamame

Trip arrived at our rescue in September of 2022 from Michigan! He was born without a front left hoof. He needs a prosthetic to ensure he grows symmetrically and can live a healthy, happy life! He was part of a herd and is very nervous around humans but we are slowly gaining his trust and soon we should be able to measure his leg for his new prosthetic!

Edamame

When you think of an extravert Edamame should come to your mind. She LOVES attention. If you sit down, she will be on your lap. She enjoys sunbathing but she enjoys attention even more.

Rue

Edamame

Esther

Rue is Esther's baby. Her, Esther, and Crowley were all rescued from an abusive home that had them chained up in his backyard without access to appropriate food and water. The owner had multiple complaints from neighbors and he was going to ship them to slaughter when the neighbor stepped in and tried to find a rescue that would take them

The owner had multiple complaints from neighbors and he was going to ship them to slaughter when the neighbor stepped in and tried to find a rescue that would take them. Rue had a hard start to her life at the farm battling a high parasite burden, diarrhea, and dehydration. She is a fighter though and loves exploring the land with her mom and munching on dried leaves.

Esther

Esther

Esther had a hard life before. She has cared for her baby (Rue) well and the two are inseparable. Unlike Rue, Esther is very outgoing and trusting. She loves being pet and will follow you around the pasture. She is playful, curious, and loves her hay!

Coconut

Coconut is a friendly chicken that is at the bottom of the pecking order. She enjoys sun bathing and getting treats. Her favorite things are tomatoes and watermelon. She is submissive and gentle and enjoys being talked to.

He has severe arthritis and is on multiple pain medications per day. He is also getting injections to help the growth of his cartilage. He loves food and will take on Charlie and Trip for some extra pellets! He maneuvers the steep hills well for a man in his condition!

Crowley

Crazy Cattle Mutt Dogs

Crowley

Crowley came to our rescue with Esther and Rue. He likes to head-butt and he acts strong, yet he is very skittish around humans. He still needs time to adjust to his new life and to learn to trust again. He enjoys eating bark and soaking up the sun.

Pheona

Crazy Cattle Mutt Dogs

Crazy Cattle Mutt Dogs

Not technically a rescue, but Pheona is what changed everything for me. She has been with me over these past 12 years of my journey as a veterinarian and a vegan. She was my first dog and my kindred spirit. She is sassy and knows exactly what she wants from life (which is normally food and attention).

Although you would never know it, these girls are not related. Kahlua (bigger) was rescued from a petsmart adoption event and Chai (smaller) was adopted from a spay & neuter event during my 4th year of veterinary school. They are inseparatable.  They both enjoy running, playing, and tug of war. Even though Chai is half of Kahlua's weight, you would never know it by her determination to keep up!
